WEST POINT, NY - ARMY WEST POINT and Montclair State University carved up USMA's Tate Rink with a combined 13 goals in a see-saw matchup. The Cadets played only their second game on home ice in the 2016-2017 campaign and the historic confines of the Holleder Center boosted the team's morale after a tight 3-2 loss the previous day.

In his return to the ice after a semester abroad, Kyle Vogel lit the lamp three times for a hat trick - including the game winner - and added an assist. ARMY WEST POINT spotted the Hawks a 2-0 lead after the first period then faced a 4-1 deficit in the second period before notching six of the game's next eight goals. Matt Reihl, Matt Ouellette, Kyle Vogel, and Jay Peterson all figured in the scoring of the period's four Cadet goals.

Montclair State pushed its 5-4 lead to a 6-4 advantage early in the third period before ARMY WEST POINT struck for two to tie the game, on goals from Alexander Miller and Drew Lysakowski. Vogel finished off his hat trick with the game winner with under 5 minutes to play and the squad hung on in a frantic finish to capture the 7-6 victory.

ARMY WEST POINT concludes the regular season with a roadie to Penn State University February 3 and 4.

COLLEGE PARK, MD - ARMY WEST POINT Club Hockey (10-7-0) returned to action in 2017 with a 2-1 win over the University of Maryland Terrapins (8-6-2). Herbert Wells Arena on the Maryland campus proved a perfect venue to shut down the #14 Terps' high-flying offense which came into the game averaging almost 5 goals per game over a 3-game winning streak.

The 13th-ranked Black Knight squad scored early and late in the first period, staking the club to a 2-0 lead on goals by Jake Brown and Matt Riehl. Keegan Thomas assisted twice and Chris Callahan added a helper on the tallies.

Two goals would be all goaltender Robbie Fenton would need, as he stopped 33 of 34 shots and gave up only a second period goal.

Up next for the Cadets are #6 RPI (14-7-0) at Houston Fieldhouse in Rochester on January 28 and a home test against #16 Montclair State (8-10-1) on January 29.

READING, PA - Sometimes hockey is about more than wins and losses. It's about giving back to the game the players love, inspiring youth to achieve their on-ice best, and role-modeling leadership and character.

As a prelude to the third annual Royal Cup face-off against Navy, ARMY WEST POINT cadets skated with Reading-area youth hockey players in a 90-minute clinic. Male and female skaters ranged in ability and age, from those in their first season on ice to early teens. Players worked on skating skills, puck handling, goaltending, and scoring.

West Point team captain Zach Cohen (2017) was joined by fellow Black Knights including Wyomissing-Reading native Drew Lysakowski (2017), Jake Brown (2017), Jake Stachurski (2020), Caleb Septer (2020), and Jeston Rademaker (2020). Coaches and members of the Penn State Berks Ice Lions (ACHA DII) also skated with clinic attendees. ARMY WEST POINT defeated the Ice Lions 7-2 in late October.

READING, PA - The third annual Royal Cup went to the Midshipmen of the U.S. Naval Academy (ACHA DI), but not after a significant battle against the stalwart ARMY WEST POINT Black Knights (ACHA DII). The ESPN3 ACHA game of the week gave a worldwide audience a taste of the nation's greatest rivalry on ice at the Reading Royals' Santander Arena.

It seems contrary that an eventual 5-1 Mids victory was closer than the score, but the two service academies scratched and clawed and skated end-to-end for 47 minutes of scoreless hockey until the end of the second period. Shots were even throughout the game when Navy struck first with a tipped goal with just over two minutes remaining in the second frame. The goal stymied an ARMY WEST POINT second period advantage in play and scoring chances and was followed by a defensive lapse that led to Navy's second score with just seven seconds left in the period.

ARMY WEST POINT came out with determination in the third period and forward Max Krieg (2017) halved the Mids' lead with a powerplay goal. Leading 2-1, Navy bounced back and scored on the next shift to sap the Cadets' energy. Another Navy tally and empty net goal sealed the game.

BREWSTER, NY - The friendly confines of Brewster Ice Arena welcomed ARMY WEST POINT for a "home-away-from-home" matchup against Fairfield University (CT) on Sunday night. The Black Knights felt right at home, dominating the game and driving toward the team's first shutout win of the season, 4-0.

Facing a highly regarded Fairfield team who entered the team 5-1-0 with several blowout wins, ARMY WEST POINT outworked, outskated, and outscored the visiting Stags. The Black Knight penalty kill unit shut down five Stage powerplays and goaltender Orion Boylston stopped every Fairfield shot. Cadet skaters added two goals in each of the first two periods, taking a commanding lead into the third period. In the third, the West Point squad locked down and used a forward-high, single-forward forecheck to keep the Stags in their end and clog the neutral zone.

, WEST POINT, NY and WYOMISSING, PA - A weekend of home and away match-ups started inauspiciously...with a rainy home rink dressing room outside West Point's Holleder Center.

But when the homestanding cadets entered Tate Rink for their first on-post game this season, shaking off the rain was the last thing on their minds. Facing the Rowan Profs - the only team to defeat the West Point club this season - the team simply wanted to avenge the loss, gain two key points in the MACH, and continue its strong play.

Firstie Cory Miller led the way in the 3-2 win over the Profs, scoring the game's only first period goal and assisting on the only second period goal, staking ARMY WEST POINT to a 2-0 lead going into the third. Rowan cut the lead to 2-1 with an early third period goal just seconds after a Black Knights penalty expired. The teams locked horns in a tight checking, back and forth battle until Firstie Drew Lysakowski put the West Point squad ahead 3-1 on an unassisted tally. A late goal by Rowan kept the outcome in suspense but the cadets finished off the victory with strong defense and goaltending. Orion Boylston grabbed the win in net, stopping 29 Rowan shots.

A quick roadie to the Black Knights' "home-away-from-home" BodyZone Rink pitted the squad against ACHA Division I regional rival Penn State Berks. Tight games against the Ice Lions the past three seasons seemed to foreshadow a competitive match-up, but the West Point team jumped all over the Berks boys, scoring the game's first six goals - three each in the first and second periods. Penn State Berks struck for two early goals in the third period, but ARMY WEST POINT capped the 7-2 victory with a final goal.

Thirteen cadets were point scorers including Cory Miller (1G, 2A), Drew Lysakowski (3A), Max Krieg (2G), Keegan Thomas (1G, 1A), Jay Peterson (2A), Jake Stachurski (1G), James Fako (1G), , Alex Voronovich (1G), Zach Cohen (1A), Mitch DeRidder (1A), Brendan Ward (1A), James Hess (1A). and John Cahill (1A). ARMY WEST POINT peppered PSU Berks with 46 shots on goal. Boylston won again, stopping 25 shots in net.

RUTGERS, NJ - Black was the color of victory as West Point's Black Knights took down the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 7-1.

The cadets broke open a scoreless game midway through the first period, firing four straight goals into the Scarlet Knights' net. Max Krieg recorded his seventh goal in seven games and Logan Buzzard, Keegan Thomas, and Jay Peterson added goals within three minutes in the period. In the second and third periods, ARMY WEST POINT's Logan Buzzard scored his second and third of the game, completing his hat trick, and Drew Lysakowski tallied the final goal.

The lopsided game descended into a penalty-ridden affair with the two teams earning 11 sin-bin visits in the second and third periods. Netminder Orion Boylston stopped 24 of 25 shots as the cadets outshot Rutgers 35 to 25.

LANCASTER (PA) AND HOLLYDELL (NJ) - ARMY WEST POINT earned its fifth straight victory to open the season on Friday night against Millersville, but was upended by a quick-strike Rowan attack on Saturday.

Millersville provided little resistance to a potent cadet offensive, closing within a goal at 2-1 in the second period until the Black Knights erupted for three straight goals to close out a 5-1 win.  Five different cadets - Cory Miller, Al Miller, Jake Brown, Mitch Deridder, and Jay Peterson - represented a balanced scoring attack for ARMY WEST POINT.

Rowan and ARMY WEST POINT waged a hard-hitting and competitive match-up through two periods, with the Professors carrying a 2-1 advantage into the third. Jay Peterson continued his stellar early freshman campaign with his fifth goal. The Profs and cadets traded goals and, midway through the third, ARMY WEST POINT trailed 3-2 after Mitch Deridder roofed the rubber disc.

The Black Knights outshot the Profs 34-26 on the game, but two quick Rowan goals shut down the cadet comeback. Several West Point shots off the post and an empty-net Rowan goal set the final score at 6-2.

HACKENSACK-NEWARK, NJ - Wagner became ARMY WEST POINT's second weekend sweep victim in a home-and-home series. The West Point squad kicked off its home schedule in Hackensack with an 8-6 win in a competitive affair that ramped up each period.

A 1-1 first period featured a goal by early-season freshman sensation Max Krieg, who then notched a second goal in the second as part of a three-goal onslaught by the Black Knights. Firsties Tyler Rettke and Mitch Deridder found the back of the net to give ARMY WEST POINT a 4-1 lead. After the second intermission, Wagner scored three of the game's next four goals to draw within a goal. Firsties Drew Lysakowski and Jake Brown kept the cadets ahead and secured the win.

The Sunday tilt was a lopsided match at Newark's Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils. The Black Knights bedeviled Wagner, jumping out to four-goal lead through two periods, 4-1, then closing out the victory with two third-period goals. Goal scorers included Cory Miller, Chris Callahan (2G), Matt Ouellette, Mitch Deridder, and Max Krieg.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA and NEWARK, DE - The road warrior ethos carried ARMY WEST POINT to a season-opening sweep against George Washington University and the University of Delaware September 24-25.

The Black Knights shows resiliency and a high-powered offensive attack in both games. In the opener against the Colonials at the Washington Capitals' Kettler IcePlex, George Washington took an early lead just 1:33 into the first period, but the men from the Hudson Valley struck back 90 seconds later. Austin Pearson hit the net for the season's first goal on assists from Max Kreig and freshman Jay Peterson. Drew Lysakowski gave the cadets a 2-1 lead on an unassisted tally.

George Washington opened the second period's scoring and tied up the contest. At 11:51 of the second, a freshman-to-freshman connection gave Jay Peterson his first ARMY WEST POINT goal on an assist from Jake Stachurski. The one-goal cadet lead vanished early in the third period as the Colonials knotted up the score 3-3. ARMY WEST POINT and George Washington traded goals, with the Black Knights' tally from Max Krieg (assist, Al Miller). Two straight cadet goals by Cory Miller and Mitch Deridder put the game out of reach and gave ARMY WEST POINT its first win of the season, 6-4.

In the Sunday matchup, the Black Knights took down last season's MACH league champion 8-6. The game was a track meet with both teams showing flashes of speed, capitalizing on odd-man rushes, and responding to scores. Al Miller gave the cadets an early first period lead, but the Blue Hens scored three straight goals until ARMY WEST POINT's Brendan Ward tallied with just over five minutes remaining.

ARMY WEST POINT turned the tables in the second period. After another early goal by the Blue Hens, three straight cadet plebe goals - two by Jay Peterson and one by Max Krieg - gave the Black Knights a lead it wouldn't relinquish. The third period belonged to Austin Pearson as he scored a natural hat-trick and earned MACH offensive player of the week honors. Netminder Jackson Farrington, another plebe, earned the victory.
