Playing their first game of the season against Rider University, the Black Knights came out strong against a tough conference rival. Half way through the first period a light shined for Army as #44 Keegan Thomas (Junior) got a breakaway opportunity and netted a back hand shot to put the Black Knights up one nothing and score the first goal for Army in the new season. Rider would tie the game up on a power-play shortly before the end of the first period.

Penalties on both sides slowed the pace of the game throughout, and on an Army power-play in the second period rookie Luke Schneider tipped a shot from Senior Chris Callahan to put Army back on top. It didn't take long before Rider was able to knot it up at two however. As the second period winded down both sides had many chances but eventually Sophomore Jay Peterson was able to hit home a rebound in front of Rider's net to put Army up 3-2 going into the final period.

For most of the third Senior goalie Rob Fenton stood strong in net, keeping the Broncs at bay. Unfortunately in the last five minutes of the game Rider was able to score on a two on one. This put the game into four on four overtime for five minutes. Opportunities were swindled by both teams, so a three man shootout would decide the game. Rider deferred and Army shot first, but all three of Army's shooters could not find the back of the net. With the game on his stick the third Rider shooter was able to shoot one in off the right post. The overtime loss gives Army 1 point in the MACH standings. Army will have a chance at revenge on November 3rd at Tate Rink.
