ARMY Rolls in 9-11 Memorial Tourney

ARLINGTON, VA, Kettler IcePlex - In an event to honor those who perished and those who served after 9/11, ARMY WEST POINT Club Hockey played with passion and resolve. Kicking off the 2016-2017 campaign at the 1st Annual 9/11 Memorial Service Academy Showcase, ARMY WEST POINT cruised to three shut-out wins and a tie. The Washington Capitals' Kettler IcePlex practice facility hosted the event.

The showcase's round-robin format matched the four participating service academies in abbreviated 25-minute games, and it was a good thing, as ARMY WEST POINT dominated each short session. The ACHA DII Cadets crushed the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (ACHA DIII) 4-0, throttled the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (ACHA DIII) 5-0, then dismantled the U.S. Naval Academy (ACHA DII) 3-0. It took a combination team composed of all three sea-based academies' top offensive and defensive lines to forge a 1-1 tie in a Land (ARMY) vs. Sea (all others) showcase finale.

On Sunday, Cadets attended a 9/11 memorial event at the Pentagon featuring Commander-in-Chief President Barack Obama, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. (US Marine Corps).
