Terps Shell-Shocked in OT
Posted on January 31st, 2016

ANNAPOLIS, MD - About 12 hours after an historic victory over D1 Navy, ARMY WEST POINT struggled and needed late goals and an overtime to dispatch the Maryland Terps.

The Cadets forged a first period 2-1 lead, paced by goals from Matt Riehl and Austin Pearson, and a surging blueline attack. The second period featured three straight goals by the Terrapins, with tipped and bouncing pucks escaping the ARMY WEST POINT goalie. Maryland started the third period protecting a 2-goal margin. The men of the Hudson struck early on a tally by Thane Heller then Joe Kramer tied the game at 4-4.

A Terp goal at 13:42 reestablished a 1-goal lead for Maryland. The Cadets buzzed the Terp goaltender who turned away shot after shot. Pressing the play, ARMY WEST POINT pulled its netminder with under 2 minutes to play, seeking the equalizer. Following a time out, Riehl struck again with 30 seconds remaining and a late save by Robbie Fenton pushed the game into bonus time.

Overtime delivered a sudden victory for ARMY WEST POINT and left the Terps belly up on their shells, as O'Leary notched the game-winner just 0:06 into the extra frame. Heller assisted to solidify his exceptional weekend. In the third period and overtime, Maryland was outshot 13-4. Robbie Fenton earned the victory in net in relief of Daniel Curran.
