NEWARK, DE - Army West Point faced the University of Delaware Blue Hens in an early-season Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey (MACH) D2 matchup.

After a long Sunday morning drive, the cadet squad came out flat and fell behind 5-2 in the first period against a Delaware team that won the MACH league championship in 2014-2015. First-period goal scorers were forward Tyler Rettke and defenseman James McNulty, with helpers from Alex Miller, Chris Callahan, Kyle Vogel, and Matt Riehl.

Army West Point dominated the second and third periods. The cadets charged out of the first intermission and plucked the Hens with 2 goals, by Joe Kramer and Tyler Rettke, his second of the game. Riehl, Alex Miller, and Zach Cohen registered assists. In the third, a Delaware blue-line slapshot got past Army's screened goaltender, re-establishing a 2-goal Blue Hens lead. Army struck back less than a minute later, cutting Delaware's lead to 6-5, as James Hess lit the lamp assisted by Drew Lysakowski and Mitch DeRidder. Skating with an extra man and empty net late in the third, Army West Point could not register a tying goal and fell 6-5. Robbie Fenton stopped 19 of 20 shots in the second and third in relief of Nico Candelmo.

Army's early season record stands at 1-2 (0-1 MACH). The squad faces Towson University (Baltimore, MD) in the first-ever games at Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh, the cadets' "home-away-from-home" venue. Game times are Friday, 9/18 at 9:30 pm, and Saturday, 9/19, at 8:30 pm.
