Army Posts Shootout Win with Short Bench
Posted on February 9th, 2015

Fall River, MA - Another weekend, another road game - and another win for the West Point squad. This time it was a gutsy 4-3 shootout win over the Roger Williams University Hawks (DII).

Coming into the game, the Cadets faced two challenges: a Hawks club with a record of 16-6-1 and a short bench decimated by Yearling Winter Weekend. With no Yearlings/Sophomores or Firsties/Seniors rostered, West Point entered the game with just 11 skaters and 7 Plebes/Freshman in the lineup, including the starting goaltender.

Frosh Robbie Fenton minded the net with poise and West Point supported him with the club's usual brand of tough defense and resilience. After a scoreless first, the second period opened up and the Cadets ended the frame with a 3-2 advantage. Second period Army scorers were Thane Heller (unassisted) and Joe Kramer, with two goals (assists by Logan Schmidt and Matthew Riehl).

A goal by RWU knotted the score at 3-3 in the third. Neither team broke through in overtime, but Fenton stood tall in the shootout and Army notched the victory. Fenton stopped 36 of 39 shots.

Next up is the West Point club's first-ever home ACHA game at historic Tate Rink. The Cadets face their arch-rival Midshipmen of Navy's ACHA Division ‚ÄčI squad on February 14 at 4:30 p.m. EST. You can bet there will be no love lost this Valentine's Day between the squads. Admission is FREE to all.
